Snowmageddon is behind us (hopefully).....

StartFragment

To all my fellow East Coasters:

I don't know about you, but I’ve had my fill of snow until next winter. Although it’s ironic that a blizzard came at the tail end of a 60 degree winter, those of us who were (un)lucky enough to get 20-30 inches of snow were not amused.

We never quite know whether to believe the newscaster or not, which leads to some frantic snowmaggedon preparation: Tell the truth how many of you emptied your bank accounts trying to stock up on comfort food? Did you buy ALL the bread on the shelf?

It wasn’t until I was standing in the middle of a grocery store that had been picked clean that I decided to just make homemade bread. Making meals at home that you would otherwise just grab off of a shelf is not only economically savvy, but it makes for better tasting meals (Take that Stroehmmann!).

Before you blow your budget on a food shopping spree, you might want to think about these ways to save money.

1. Instead of lugging around ten cans of Progresso soup, try buying the ingredients to make your own soup.

o Buying ingredients instead of ready-made meals gives you more wiggle room with the food you buy. You could make chicken noodle soup one day and baked chicken the next. The only thing worse than being stuck in the house all day is being stuck AND eating the same dinner three nights in a row.

2. Budgeting for grocery shopping is also important.

o Create a budget for your grocery needs and stick to it. Passing up on the extra snacks every shopping trip isn’t easy, but your bank account will thank you for it later.

I know some of you splurged on the $7.99 Netflix subscription for impromptu Netflix and chill. (You can plead the fifth, but I’ll check back in nine months to see how many of you have a new tax deduction!)

Saving money on snowstorm shopping is important especially since you never know when Mother Nature will throw us another curveball.

Enjoy the snowy weather, the comfort food, and the extra cuddle time! Check back soon for the next article!EndFragment
